Continue your adventures and get the skills and experience you need to dive the world’s best dive sites, with SSI advanced training programs. Whatever your passion is, we have an SSI Specialty for your needs, because you can choose from over 20 individual programs.

When you complete a certain number of specialties, you’ll also automatically earn the SSI Specialty Diver, SSI Advanced Specialty Diver and SSI Master Diver ratings. These ratings display your competency and build a solid base for more adventures to come.

An SSI Specialty Diver is achieved by completing any two SSI Specialty programs and logging at least 12 open water dives. This rating recognises a diver’s increased knowledge and skills in specific diving areas, such as deep diving, navigation, or nitrox, and acts as a stepping stone toward advanced ratings.

Key Details About SSI Specialty Diver Recognition:

Requirements: Complete 2 Specialty courses and log 12+ total dives.
Benefits: Increases confidence, safety, and competence in specific environments.
Progression: This is the first step in SSI recognition, followed by Advanced Specialty Diver (4 specialties, 24 dives) and Master Diver (4 specialties, Diver Stress & Rescue, 50 dives).

How to Become a Specialty Diver:

Select Specialties: Choose two areas of interest.
Complete Training: Engage in digital learning and practical sessions with an instructor.
Log Dives: Complete the required open water dives for each specialty to reach a total of 12 dives.

Once requirements are met, you automatically earn the SSI Specialty Diver recognition rating

Differences between SSI Advanced Ratings

SSI Advanced Open Water : A single “taster” course focusing on five adventure dives to try different specialties, suitable for those who want a quick progression.
SSI Specialty Diver: Certification in 2 Specialty courses and log 12+ total dives.
SSI Advanced Specialty Diver: A more comprehensive level requiring full certification in 4 distinct specialties and more logged experience.
SSI Master Diver: The next level, requiring 4 Specialties + Stress & Rescue + 50 total logged dives
