Captain Don's Habitat is an excellent resort overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea, just over a mile along the coast from Kralendijk, the capital of Bonaire. Although a world-famous resort, Captain Dons' is a small resort with just 60 suites and bungalows, all close to the ocean. Captain Don's Habitat was founded in 1976, by renowned underwater environmentalist Captain Don Stewart. "Habitat" plays an active role in the conservation of Bonaire's natural resources and environment. Captain Don's Habitat built its reputation as a first-class dive resort and has developed into a great holiday resort offering activities and amenities to divers and non-divers alike, with kayaks and mountain bikes available on site, plus other facilities like an excellent restaurant, a health spa and a photographic centre. It also has a lot to offer those who do not feel the urge to submerge. The resort has a raised beach and a pool and is quiet and relaxed. Captain Don's has excellent accommodation, a great dive centre and is very good value for money.
Captain Don's has a wide choice of good quality accommodation. Most rooms are within 50 metres of the ocean, in tropical gardens or on the ocean front. The walk from the bungalows in the gardens to the ocean takes just a minute. All rooms are fully furnished, nicely decorated in a fresh, Caribbean style. Each bedroom has its own bathroom – bathrooms have hairdryers. All rooms have a safe. There is a daily maid and linen service and free wi-fi around the resort.
Habitat Two Bedroom Bungalows - have a very spacious air-conditioned, fully furnished living area with cable TV, laptop safe, a dining area with table and chairs and a fully equipped kitchen.
Each bedroom has ensuite bathroom. The first bedroom has a Queen size bed (UK King size), second bedroom has two single beds. These bungalows have a large covered patio and are in the gardens less than 100 metres from the ocean.
Deluxe Ocean View Rooms - are large, air-conditioned rooms, with two Queen sized beds (UK King size), refrigerator, coffee maker, telephone, laptop safe and cable TV. The bathroom has a bath, shower, basin and hair dryer. These rooms have a very large patio door, almost the length of the room, leading to a large, private balcony or patio with table and chairs. The Deluxe rooms overlook the pool and have a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea.
Diving and Snorkelling
On Bonaire most diving is shore diving and snorkellers can enjoy the shore entry sites too. Bonaire is a small island, refills are never far away. 51 shore diving sites means you can dive/snorkel when you like - and pretty much where you like. Bonaire is officially recognised as having the most pristine coral reef and the most species of fish in the Caribbean by the NOAA. Bonaire is famous for its diving and snorkelling - consistently voted "best dive destination" by divers. The Reef Environmental Education Foundation lists 8 of Bonaire's dive sites in their top 10 in terms of species richness in the Caribbean.
Divers and snorkellers can enjoy the ocean a few metres from their room. The dive centre at Captain Don's is a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm Resort. Photo Services are also available with the latest in photo and video equipment for sale or hire, instruction and private photo shoots. The Dive Centre also has ocean kayaks for hire. There are secure lockers on the dock for storing gear with 24 hour access.
"Unlimited air" means what is says. As much air as you want. Total Diving Freedom has always been the concept at Captain Don's Habitat - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no rush or fuss. Following accepted safety practices, you can grab a tank and go....whenever you want ! The reef is around 25 metres out – around 9 metres down. Enjoy the shore diving or join one of the custom built dive boats. Each mooring buoy is limited to 1 boat so you'll have the reef all to yourself. Over 50 world class dives are within a 15 minute boat ride. Snorkellers can join the dive boats to get to those secluded bays. To enjoy this freedom and explore the island, we are hiring vehicles. Driving is easy and on Bonaire you are never more than 20 minutes from Captain Don's or 5 minutes from the ocean. Custom built dive boats are available, of course, comfortable and well equipped for the short ride to the dive sites. Boats take small groups, usually 6 to 8 divers and snorkellers. At most sites there will be just you and few (new) friends. This means boats can get booked up very easily.
